Installing Inform and InSched
InSched version 26 (and earlier versions) uses SQL Server as its database engine, and requires Inform to be installed in order to work.
If your practice already has Inform and InSched installed on the server, you can use the instructions on this page to install the Inform and InSched programs from the server onto a new computer. If you are starting with a computer that already has Inform and InSched installed and just want to move to the newest version, see Updating InSched to Version 26 — but if Inform and InSched are not yet installed on the computer, you will need to install them first using the steps below.
Installing from Your Server
Start by locating the Inform folder on the server. For example, if the folder on the server is mapped to the M: drive and Inform is installed at M:\Inform, then from the new computer, start by running the M:\Inform\Update\Setup.exe program.
At any point in this process, when you get a prompt "Are you sure you want to run this file?", click Run.
-
When you see the PES Update program at PES Application Update, leave the Installation Type as "Client Upgrade" (even though you are actually doing a new client installation on this computer) and click the Application Path button.
-
In Application Path, find the folder on the local computer into which you want to install the Inform and InSched programs — for example, go to
C:\and create a folder there named InformApp. Select that folder and click Open, then once that folder is open, click Save to exit the Application Path dialog. -
Back at "Application path changed", again leave "Client Upgrade" selected, and click Continue.
-
When shown the message "Our Trusted Publisher Digital Certificate is needed. Can we install it.", click Yes.
-
If you get the message "AppUpdate.exe appears to not be responding. Would you like to stop it?", click No.
warningIf you click Yes at this prompt, the installation will stop and will need to be restarted.
-
You will then see a list of components that are selected, including:
- Menu and Shortcuts
- 2013 Access Runtime
- SQL Native Client
- Inform Application
- Insched Crystal Install
- Insched Path All Files
All of these should be checked for both Select and Wait. Leave them all checked, and click the Install Selected button.
-
Multiple components will install. Answer Yes or Run whenever asked "Are you sure you want to run this file?"
-
Ultimately, you should get to "Update Complete" and "Click Finish. Then begin using applications." Click the Finish button.
Finishing the Database Setup
Now start the Inform program by double-clicking the Inform icon on the desktop — even if you are not planning to use Inform from this computer — to finish the database setup for this computer.
You will see "Checking Table Connections." You may see a message "The database you are connected to is not at the same version level as the program on this workstation. Some local tables were not refreshed. resources". Click OK, and then close Inform.
Now you can start the InSched program by double-clicking the InSched icon on the desktop.
