Messages & Notifications
The Messages tab is a private, secure conversation with your practice — a safe alternative to regular email or texting for anything involving your health information.
Sending and reading messages
Messages appear as a conversation, with the name of the staff member who wrote each reply. Type your message and press Send (Ctrl+Enter also works). Messages you have not read yet are marked, and a badge on the Messages tab shows how many are waiting.
You can attach files to a message — up to five at a time (photos, PDFs, or Word documents). Attachments are processed for safety before practice staff view them, so there may be a short delay before the practice can open them.
How you're notified
You control how the portal tells you a new message is waiting. On the Account tab, under Notifications, four switches are available:
- Email me when I have a new message
- Include the message in the email — the notification email contains the message text itself. Leave this off if others may see your email.
- Text me when I have a new message
- Include the beginning of the message in the text — likewise for text messages.
If you choose not to include the message content, the notification only tells you that something is waiting in the portal — you sign in to read it.
These switches control portal message notifications only. Appointment reminders and other communications from the office are set up by the practice — contact them to change how you receive those.
