Searching for Patients
InSched provides several ways to find patient records, both from within the scheduling interface and as standalone searches.
Important Note about Patient Name Changes
Patients often change their last name, sometimes for changes in marital status. InSched acknowledges that by tracking those changes, and automatically searching for patients by all their names.
Therefore, if a patient has changed her name from "Jane Smith" to "Jane Jones", even though her name is no longer "Smith", she will still be found searching by either "smi jan " or "jon jan ".
This feature requires that the name editing be done in InSched rather than Inform. If you edit the patient name in Inform, the previous names will not be saved.
Therefore, you should always edit patient names in InSched rather than Inform.
Quick Search from the Edit Appointment Dialog
When creating or editing an event, the Patient Search field lets you quickly find a patient:
- Type a few letters of the last name
- Optionally add a space and a few letters of the first name
- Press Tab or Space to search
Example: Type "pad ant " to find Anthony Padua.
If one match is found, it is automatically selected. If multiple matches are found, a selection list appears. If no match is found, you are offered the option to create a new patient record.
