Patient Portal Accounts
Practice staff manage patients' Patient Portal accounts from the patient's page in the web portal. The patient's portal account card shows the account email, its state — Active, Invitation pending, Locked, or Deactivated — and when the patient last signed in (or "never signed in").
Inviting a patient
Click Invite to portal to send the patient an invitation email with a link to set their own password. The invitation goes to the email address on the patient's record; you can override it in the invitation dialog (which also updates what the account will use). If an invitation can't be sent, the card explains why (for example, no email address on file).
For the invitation to work, the patient's record must be marked Patient Portal OK in InSched and included in the practice's PatientConnection uploads.
Patients can also self-register from the portal sign-in page: they enter the email address on their record and confirm their identity with their date of birth. Self-registration only works for patients marked Patient Portal OK.
Account actions
- Resend invitation — for an invitation the patient hasn't finished.
- Send password reset — emails the patient a reset link (staff never see or set patient passwords).
- Unlock — clears a lockout after repeated failed sign-ins.
- Deactivate / Reactivate — a deactivated account cannot sign in; the patient's history is kept.
Each account belongs to exactly one patient — there are no shared or family logins — and every account action is recorded in the practice's audit trail.
